Chahal's riches comes under scanner
The police have now confiscated the car, which had been hidden in Karnal.
 INDIA , 18-June-2007  1:52:15 AM
The Patiala police video graphed Captain Amarinder Singh's media adviser B I S Chahal 's house and released the pictures to the media.

Later the possessions in the house have been listed by the Punjab police as part of the disproportionate assets case against Chahal.

The video shot by the police shows that the former media adviser's Patiala house has among other things 20 air conditioners, a gymnasium, six LCD and plasma TV sets, saunas, expensive fittings in bathrooms, several sofa sets and six cars.

Chahal is already in judicial custody with three criminal cases against him. These include forcibly acquiring land from an individual, not paying a contractor who built his kitchen and holding on to a Mercedes car that belonged to a businessman.

The police have now confiscated the car, which had been hidden in Karnal.

''We have recovered the Mercedes car on the information and recovery given by Chahal. We have recovered fake number plates and a beacon light from it. He had got a fake registration of the car,'' said Mandeep Singh Sidhu, SP, Patiala.

While the Vigilance Bureau is preparing their case against Chahal, his lawyers say he is a victim of vendetta politics and paying the price for being close to the former Chief Minister.

''In defence we have every right to say that this is not disproportionate assets, it is a self acquired property from his ancestors,'' said Vinod Ghai, defence lawyer.

Chahal has also alleged that the police tortured him when he was in their custody.

Though the police remand for Chahal is over, it seems the former media adviser's troubles are far from over, with the Vigilance Bureau gathering proof against him for a case of disproportionate assets and corruption.
