| Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat has filed his nomination papers on Monday as an independent candidate backed by the NDA for the presidential poll.
Shekhawat was accompanied by several senior NDA leaders including Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, George Fernandes, Sushma Swaraj and others.
More than 266 people signed the nomination papers including 128 MPs, seven Chief Ministers were also present.
Interestingly Natwar Singh who's been suspended from the Congress signed Shekhawat's papers as a proposer and was also present there.
However, the three-time Rajastan Chief Minister does not have the numbers in his favour.
After the UPA-Left's hardline stance against President Kalam as candidate and the Third Front having ruled out any support to the Vice President, the 84 year old Shekhawat has practically no chance against the UPA's nominee Pratibha Patil.
However, that is not all, the Shiv Sena appears swayed by the Marathi card is yet to show any signs of support to Shekhawat while Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee too is evasive on supporting Shekhawat.
