Cyclonic floods hit Orissa, W Benga
The Army has been called for rescue operations. The Navy has been deployed at Sakrail in Howrah district.
 INDIA , 7-July-2007  3:31:46 AM
Thousands of people in Orissa and West Bengal were marooned for a fifth straight day on Saturday as torrential rains hampered relief work.

In West Bengal, at least 20 have died in floods and seven lakh affected in several districts, including West Midnapore.

The Army has been called for rescue operations. The Navy has been deployed at Sakrail in Howrah district.

Rivers overflowing

CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is expected to visit flood areas. In Kolkata, there were light showers in the morning. However, there was no water logging.

Most rivers in Orissa were in spate as authorities opened 20 sluice floodgates of Hirakud dam after water level in the reservoir rose menacingly.

At least 120 villages in worst hit Balasore district were flooded.
