| Seven-year old Sarita who was thrown off a bridge by a desperate father who couldn't afford to pay for her medical treatment is now back with her family after NDTV's report.
Sarita is happy to be reunited with her mother. On Tuesday the authorities brought her back.
Her father had taken her to Mumbai for treatment but after five months of taking her to various hospitals he was shattered to know that it would cost Rs three lakh to treat her.
With four other children, a wife and a mother to take care of at home, the vegetable vendor knew there was no way he could come up with the money.
So on their way back to the village he threw the girl off a bridge. But probably shocked by his own behaviour he did not return to the village. His wife says her husband must have acted on a moment of insanity.
''I think he experienced a temporary moment of insanity which is why he threw her off the bridge,'' said Jadawati, Sarita's mother.
She talks about how her husband must have gone mad for a bit and how he really took care of the daughter.
Sarita's grandmother is consumed with worry for her son. She wants him to come back even if it means handing him over to the police.
''My son took her to the doctor when she fell ill. He was told that her treatment would cost a lot. We are very poor,'' said Babuna, Sarita's grandmother.
Babuna said that her son took her everywhere for treatment.
Sarita is glad to be back. She didn't like Mumbai and is eager to go back to school
