| “I am very happy that my husband’s detention has not been extended and I am waiting for that joyous moment when he will be with us,” said Firdous Arshiya, wife of Mohammed Haneef, the Indian doctor detained by the Australian police since July 2.
Speaking to The Hindu, Ms. Firdous said it was finally proven that her husband was innocent. “I spoke to Mr. Russo [Dr. Haneef’s lawyer] and he has confirmed that my husband will be with us very soon. Allah is great. We had all faith in him and thank him for this,” she said.
Asked how soon Dr. Haneef would reach India after his release, she said: “I have no idea. But he will come out with his head high. Even after 10 days of detention, neither my husband nor my family had given up hope. When I spoke to him on Wednesday, I realised he was still holding up and thanked Allah for that. There are no charges against him and now the whole world will know that there is nothing against him.”
