| Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is facing a fresh spot of trouble.
The voices of dissent are getting shrill and letters of complaint about him have begun doing the rounds. Four BJP MLAs have sought a CBI probe, saying their phones are being tapped.
Back in May, Surat MLA Dhirubhai Gajera wrote to BJP chief Rajnath Singh that, ''to maintain his primacy Modi may resort to methods which could plunge Gujarat into a crisis and recreate the Godhra bloodshed of 2002.''
Within the BJP, Modi can argue that the MLAs are known rebels. But the BJP is worried that the letter to the governor has made dissent against the chief minister public.
''He is not solving the real problems. He will not gain anything out of all this,'' said Purshottam Rupala, Gujarat BJP President.
The Congress however is happy as BJP members are now repeating their words.
''This is what we have been saying that the Modi government will resort to communal carnage to polarise votes,'' said Devendra Dwivedi, AICC spokesperson.
With the voices of dissent getting louder and election dates nearing, the party is contemplating action against the rebels.
Sources have told NDTV that the axe could fall on these legislators once the presidential elections are over.
