| The Supreme Court on Monday clarified that it was compulsory for marriages of all religions to be registered.
The court had ruled in February 2006 that all marriages needed to registered but found that many states were only registering Hindu marriages.
The Court insisted that the rule applies to all religions and asked states to reply about the omissions in eight weeks.
