Traffic restrictions for vehiclesi
The new arrangement from August 4 will reduce movement of heavy vehicles on some city roads.
 INDIA , 24-July-2007  1:32:20 AM
The movement of heavy goods vehicles and container-laden trailers is to be prohibited both ways on National Highway 4 from the junction of Chennai Bypass (Maduravoyal junction) to Inner Ring Road (IRR) at the Koyambedu junction between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. from August 4.

Also, the movement of such vehicles would be prohibited both ways on IRR from Koyambedu junction (on NH 4) to the Madhavaram flyover junction (on NH 5).

Announcing this here on Monday, Commissioner of Police Letika Saran said the proposed arrangement is consequent to the increased vehicular traffic and the construction work under way at Koyambedu and Padi junctions and the Maduravoyal-Koyambedu Road.

The arrangements have been proposed based on the recommendations of a study conducted by traffic police. The time restriction would apply to all heavy vehicles, except those carrying essential goods such as medicines, milk and water.

Heavy goods vehicles taking Chennai Bypass from Tambaram and bound for North Chennai via NH 4 and IRR would have to take the bypass, NH 4, Poonamallee-Avadi Road, NH 205 from Avadi to Ambattur and Ambattur Madanakuppam-Mettupalayam Road to reach Puzhal junction on GNT Road.

Vehicles coming on NH 4 from Sriperumbudur to North Chennai would be required to take Poonamallee-Avadi Road, NH 205 from Avadi to Ambattur and Ambattur-Madanakuppam-Mettupalayam Road.

Heavy goods vehicles coming on NH 205 from Tiruvallur and travelling to North Chennai would have to take the Ambattur-Avadi Road. Those coming into IRR from NH 5 junction (Madhavaram flyover junction) and proceeding to Maduravoyal/Tambaram/Poonamallee/Tiruvallur would have to take NH 5. Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Sunil Kumar said the arrangement would provide space to other vehicles and ensure safety of road users to a great extent
