| Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y Rajasekhar Reddy has offered an unconditional apology to TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu after a war of words that brought the state assembly to a standstill.
''I have great respect for mothers. I have not said anything derogatory against anyone's mother,'' said YSR.
But this half-baked apology wasn't good enough for the TDP.
Naidu had said he was deeply insulted by the CM's remarks in the Assembly on Monday.
''I am deeply insulted and humiliated. I am not attending the assembly for the next three days as the speaker is not giving me the mike to express my views,'' said Naidu.
Around 35 TDP MLAs were arrested on Tuesday while they protested outside the Assembly.
The MLAs had earlier been suspended by the Speaker for obstructing proceedings in the House.
Tuesday's suspension comes a day after fiery scenes in the assembly on Monday, when Reddy used strong language against his predecessor and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu.
''Chandrababu, you will regret having come out of your mother's womb into this world after I complete my speech. At the end of the day, you will be a washout,'' said Reddy.
The angry outburst triggered more protests, which was followed by a not-too-apologetic apology.
By Tuesday afternoon, realising that public opinion wasn't really in his favour, YSR decided to climb down.
''If Naidu thinks I have hurt his sentiments, I offer an unconditional apology,'' he said.
