| The BJP on Sunday said that it believes that its Vice Presidential candidate, former Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Najma Heptullah, is best suited for the post.
Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, however, claimed that Heptullah's candidacy had nothing to do with her religion.
''She (Heptullah) is the best person for the post not because she is a woman or that she belongs to a minority community, but she had an experience of 17 years of running the House as its vice chairperson,'' Swaraj said at the concluding session of two-day BJP's minority cell executive meeting.
''No other person, be it Rashid Masood or Hamid Ansari, can fit into the frame of the vice-president,'' she added.
Seeking to ''dispel the myth'' that it was an anti-minority party, she asked the BJP members from the minorities to present facts that dispute such accusations.
''I know that it is hard to be a BJP worker and convince people from the minority community about the party's stand on minority issues,'' Swaraj said.
''They (minorities) have been misinformed by all parties that BJP is against the minority community and you have to dispel this myth,'' she said adding, ''for this, you will have go to them with all the facts and a strong argument but without arrogance.''
Terming the Sachar Committee report as a mirror that reflects the condition of minorities during the 54 years of Congress rule, she said ''BJP activists should go to people and show them what Congress, RJD, SP and Left Parties have done for there betterment.''
