| Arjun unperturbed by dowry charges |

| If UP Chief Minister Mayawati wants the CBI to probe the dowry harassment case filed by Arjun Singh's granddaughter-in-law, she may have done the Union HRD minister, the central government and perhaps herself a favour.
Arjun Singh, his estranged son Abhimanyu and grandson Abhijit, are some of the accused in the case filed by Priyanka, who married Abhijit last year.
Dowry harassment cases are messy affairs.
The onus of proving there was no harassment lies with the accused and all the accused are questioned immediately after the case is lodged.
But for now, till the Centre considers the proposal, the Moradabad police can slow its investigation down and escape charges of partisanship.
''Both the accused and the complainant are from different places and the sequence of events involves places like Bangalore, Delhi and Moradabad. It was not easy to investigate the case,'' said Prem Prakash, SSP Moradabad.
Sources in the Arjun Singh camp say the minister is not worried nor is there any pressure from the Congress.
Sources say Sonia Gandhi was invited to the Abhijit-Priyanka wedding last year.
But Arjun Singh advised her not to go and told her about his strained relationship with his son. This is why there are no red faces in the Congress right now.
''I have heard about them after almost one and half year. There must be some background to the complaint but it has nothing to do with me. See I have nothing to do with this case and I am not worried. Let law take its own course,'' said Arjun Singh, Minsiter, HRD.
But Mayawati is a sharp politician. Sources in her government say that by roping in the CBI, the Chief Minister has ensured the case involving a union minister and senior Congressman remain in the spotlight.
