| Legal action will be initiated against people who hold up trains by staging protests, Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu said here on Thursday.
His statement came in the backdrop of regular commuters on various suburban sectors staging flash protests since July 1 against the rescheduling and change in the timings of some services. “The agitators sit on the tracks and block trains. Many people travelling to offices, colleges or even hospitals are affected,” the Minister told presspersons.
Suburban train delays were prolonged on Wednesday as two empty mainline rakes had derailed in the Central yard.
New points (the mechanical switch that guides a train from one track to another) would be installed to prevent such derailments, the Minister said.
Plea to commuters
Mr. Velu urged the commuters with grievances to approach the Divisional Railway Manager, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Chief Operations Manager or the Assistant General Manager.
