| Actor Sanjay Dutt has been shifted to Pune's historic Yerwada Jail from Arthur Road jail in Mumbai on Thursday.
''Pray for me'' is what the actor had to say to crowds gathered outside the Arthur Road prison before he was moved out.
Dutt's shift to the Yerwada jail presents an interesting coincidence.
One of the most famous inmates of this jail was Mahatma Gandhi and Dutt's latest film showed the loveable goon, being inspired by Gandhi and even starting a trend of Gandhigiri.
He was moved to Pune after Dutt's lawyers withdrew their application seeking to keep him at Arthur Road jail.
Jail officials had said they could not ensure the actors security at the prison which is meant for undertrials.
And as a convict sentenced to rigorous imprisonment Sanjay could only serve his sentence out at a regular prison.
''Jail protocol says that anyone serving a sentence should work. If the person works he or she qualifies for pardon. Arthur Road jail does not have the facility,'' said Ujjwal Nikam, Public Prosecutor.
After Tihar, Yerwada is the biggest jail in the country. It's also overcrowded with over 3000 inmates, which has a capacity to hold 2500 prisoners.
It also has the largest number of convicts facing death.
The main gate of the jail leads to a large passage with barracks on both sides.
For company, Dutt will have Abdul Karim Telgi, prime accused in the multi crore stamps scam case.
The twelve blasts convicts who have been given death have already been shifted here.
While at this jail Sanjay Dutt will be treated like any other prisoner. He'll have to choose a job, like a gardener or cleaner in the jail kitchen.
