| Ashok Malhotra, the Delhi Assembly canteen vendor and land scam kingpin, who was missing for five days after his house was raided, has been arrested by the CBI from the studio of a private television channel in Noida.
He has been taken for questioning to the CBI headquarters in the capital.
Seventeen cars, allegedly belonging to Malhotra, have also been seized by the CBI from a parking lot near his residence.
Malhotra is accused of grabbing plots meant for slum-dwellers and selling them to private parties for a huge profit.
''Investigation is in a very initial stage. No one will be spared. Anybody of any stature found to have played a role will not be spared. All that's possible is being done to unravel the scam,'' said Vijay Shankar, CBI Director.
Earlier today, in an interview to a private news channel Malhotra said he was only fond of accumulating cars and VIP number plates and that this was not a crime.
''The CBI has arrested him and will present him in the court and we will fight his case,'' said Ashok Malhotra's lawyer.
The arrest meanwhile has caused a flutter in the Congress.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi had reportedly summoned state ministers -- Haroon Yusuf, A K Walia and Arvinder Singh Lovely.
It is alleged that ministers like Ashok Walia and others were trying to topple the Sheila Dikshit government using the controversy.
