| Sonia Gandhi to visit flood-hit Bih |

| Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Shivraj Patil will be on a daylong visit to Assam and Bihar for an aerial survey of the flood-hit districts.
They will visit Dhemaji in Assam and later survey Khagaria, Begusarai, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani and Sitamarhi districts in Bihar.
Floodwater in several areas has started receding but the damage has been extensive.
A Home Ministry report on crop damage caused by floods says:
168 districts of a total of 600 districts have received excess rainfall.
Ten states have been assessed as ''severely affected'', including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
More than 1200 lives have been lost.
Standing crop in five million acres has been destroyed.
