| The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in the Mumbai serial blasts case. Five others have also been granted interim bail.
While granting bail, the apex court said Dutt's passport will remain with the trial court and he cannot leave the country without its permission.
Convicted last November on charges of possessing illegal fire arms in the run-up to the Mumbai serial bombings of March 1993, Dutt was sentenced to a six-year jail term on July 31 by a TADA Court.
The TADA court is yet to give a copy of the detailed order of his conviction.
Dutt has been ordered to surrender when he gets a copy of the conviction order, which may be handed over to him in September.
Reacting to the order, Law Minister H R Bhardwaj welcomed the news while Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal said, ''As Dutt is not charged under TADA, bail was expected''.
On August 10, the SC had refused to grant urgent hearing of Dutt's bail plea. The actor is currently lodged in Pune's Yerwada jail.
