| The kidnapping and then subsequent murder of Mumbai teenager Adnan Patrawala has sent shockwaves through the city.
Sixteen-year-old Adnan was found dead in his car on the outskirts of Mumbai murdered by his own friends more than 24 hours after he was kidnapped.
Adnan the son of a businessman had stepped out of his home on Saturday night but never came back. On Sunday morning, his parents received a call demanding Rs two crore.
''The first call came in the morning. They spoke to us very sweetly and said the boy is fine and all they wanted was the money. Even the boy spoke to us and told us he was fine,'' said Rajiv Manvani, family friend.
The police's first breakthrough came on Monday when they arrested three of Adnan's friends.
''We have registered a case of abduction. We have got a few leads and we should be able to make a breakthrough soon,'' said Kiran Sonone, Senior Police Inspector.
The three however confessed to having killed Adnan in panic after abducting him for ransom. They finally led the police to his car and body.
''The police were on their way to get him back. In fact they had told us they'd give us the good news in ten minutes or so. But then we got the news that our child was no more,'' said Rajiv Manvani.
The police now believe the trio befriended Adnan over the networking site Orkut by creating fake IDs and then convincing the boy to meet them.
The police are now going through Adnan's profile on Orkut. The profile of someone called 'angel' has particularly caught attention as the police believe he may have some connection with the murder.
