| Proud students celebrated India's School No 1 and they have reason to gloat.
DPS R K Puram has been voted the country's best school, beating 250 other prestigious schools, including Doon, which came in second.
''When I grow up and if I tell somebody that I am from DPS RK Puram they will look at from a different angle,'' said Manasvi, Class VII, DPS RK Puram.
The ranking has been done by the Indian Market Research Bureau. The criteria include:
Academic performance
Teacher-student ratio
Fee vs value of services management
Infrastructure.
Here's what the proud principal of La Martiniere Boys school Calcutta that ranks 8th had to say.
''I am really happy for my boys especially as they are now in one of India's top 10 schools,'' said Principal, La Martiniere Boys' School.
For years, DPS R K Puram has been acknowledged as the home of over-achievers.
The maximum number of toppers every year come from there. The school average 90 per cent for the Class X Board results this year. Delhi's topper in the Class XII CBSE Boards also came from there.
And for students from all backgrounds, this is the right place to find themselves.
''We are in one of the top institutes,'' said Shireen, 9th Standard Student.
''This is the Shiksha Kendra, a very special wing within DPS RK Puram for underprivileged students but for each one of this students of this school, this is a moment to be proud of as they are part of country's top school. So let's hear it from the students themselves,'' said a teacher.
''I am really feeling proud that the school I study in is the number one school and will go back home and tell my parents that my school is number one,'' said Sita, Class IX, Shiksha Kendra, DPS RK Puram.
The school is quick to stress that it's not just all work and no play, as its basketball and hockey teams are forces to reckon with.
