DVDs showcase Modi's successes
''We have got these DVD sets from the administration, and we will have to run them between 7 pm and 9 pm, which is the prime time
 INDIA , 22-August-2007  1:38:19 AM
With elections looming in Gujarat, a set of three DVDs detailing the progress that the state has made under the leadership of Narendra Modi has been released.

In fact, cable operators in Vadodara have been told that these DVDs are strictly meant for primetime viewership.

Recently, the Collectorate handed over the DVDs to the cable operators, who while may not like the idea are too scared to oppose.

''We have got these DVD sets from the administration, and we will have to run them between 7 pm and 9 pm, which is the prime time.

Modi is currently under pressure from dissidents in the BJP.

The five rebels who have been suspended from the party are touring the state reminding people about the failures of the government.

In fact, certain communities, such as the Kolis, the Patidars and even the Brahmins, are unhappy with the chief minister's performance.

Thus, it appears that the Hindutva factor may not be a safe bet this time around.

Therefore, he is desperate to showcase what he calls his achievements.

The DVDs may talk about many of those accomplishments, but cable operators say they don't merit a primetime slot as viewership may be affected.

The administration refused to talk about the order, but the BJP finds nothing wrong about the move.

''What's wrong in asking the operators to show these DVDs. If the government has something to showcase, why should it not do so?'' said Vanraj Shah, Vice President, Vadodara BJP.

Moreover, the government plans to issue similar orders to cable operators in other parts of the state as well.

So it appears that either most of Gujarat will end up watching what the government wants them to or they will have to look for alternative sources of entertainment.
