| Eighty-one-year-old Prashanto Pal is one individual who is looking out for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who is on a three-day visit to India.
In fact, he had called the American sponsored court victor's justice, and had refused to punish Japanese war criminals after the Second World War.
That had led to Abe's grandfather Kishi Nobusuke's acquittal, after which Nobusuke became the Prime Minister and a firm friend.
''I can show you a picture where he was just walking on the street. Several students in Japan, while returning or going to school, they recognized my father and shook hands with him. Everybody had access to him and that is why he was loved, but I don't know why?'' said Prashanto Pal.
Justice Pal died in 1968. His son, who stays at their ancestral house at Dover Lane in South Kolkata, is proud that his father is a national icon.
A monument dedicated to him even stands on the grounds of the Yasukuni Shrine, seen by many in Asia as a symbol of Japan's wartime militarism.
Abe's predecessor Junichiro Koizumi created quite an uproar in China and South Korea when he visited the shrine.
''In Kolkota, there are obviously three men who are very much recognized by the Japanese people up till now. One is Rabindranath Tagore; the second is Subhash Chandra Bose; and the third my father Doctor Pal,'' said Prashanto Pal.
So now with Abe promising to meet Pal, Kolkata is firmly on the Japanese radar.
