| Four-year-old Saddam's childhood is being spent in quiet desperation. His mother died when he was a year old, leaving him in his father's care.
The only concern is that Saddam' father is a convict and has been in jail for the past 14 months. So he now lives with his father at the Bhopal Central Jail.
Saddam has no friends there, with only thieves and robbers as his companions. Ask him what he wants to be when he grows up and the instant reply is - a police officer.
Officials at the Jail have also taken a liking to the four-year-old child, so much so that they now want to send him to a school.
''When he said that he wanted to be a jail superintendent I said we would have to create the right atmosphere,'' said Purushottam Somkunwar, Superintendent, Bhopal Jail.
But it now seems that Saddam may never fulfill his ambition as his father is reluctant to let go of the child.
''I will keep him with myself. He will live and die with me. He can become whatever he wants to, with me. He will become whatever he is destined to,'' said Shahid, Saddam's father.
Officials are not as optimistic as Saddam's father. According to them this may be Saddam's only chance at a brighter future.
