| This year rakhi will be different at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. So far, India's male Presidents have had rakhis presented to them. This year, Madam President will be tying rakhis on some special guests.
For the 20-odd children who were invited to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, this Raksha Bandhan is sure to be an unforgettable one.
The children, from all over the country, will be celebrating the festival on Tuesday with the President. The country has just got its first woman President.
Many of these children who have endured terrible tragedies, will be getting to celebrate their first Rakhi.
''These children are our responsibility. It is not only the state, it is the society who can make a difference in their lives. The true spirit of raksha bandhan is to provide love, care and protection to the underprivileged. that is the whole idea,'' said Manoj Rastogi, social activist, co-ordinator.
''We feel that there is someone who wants to make us their brother too,'' said Ishfaq, orphaned student from Kashmir.
''The whole world will see that when the President ties us a rakhi. We will promise to stand by her side in the best way we can,'' he added.
The children are all under the care of NGOs and social institutions. They belong to different communities and religions but all have a common history of pain and suffering.
They might not have much but their strength of character shines through in what they have to offer the President.
Tahir, child from Gujarat, lost many family members in the Gujarat riots, said he will protect the President by becoming a policeman.
Some of these children are survivors of unspeakable tragedy, some come from homes broken because of violence or illness and some don't even have homes any more.
But what they do have in common, is that little ray of hope, and big dreams.
