| More than a hundred people have died of cholera in Orissa's Koraput and Rayagada districts.
The worst affected areas are Dasmantpur in Koraput and Kashipur in Rayagada.
The bad news is that it's spreading to neighbouring areas like Kalahandi and Gajapati districts.
Over 6000 people have received treatment so far. A high level central team is back in Delhi after a visit to Kashipur.
The three-member team is expected to submit its report on Wednesday to the Union Health Secretary.
Health Minister Ramadoss has said the Orissa government is not doing enough to contain the spread of the disease.
Despite a belated attempt to contain the disease fresh cases continue to be reported from new areas.
Every year between July and September Kashipur reports diarrhoea and severe gastro disorders that claim nearly 50 lives.
But instead of taking precaution government officials put the blame on tribals.
''The habit of the tribal people is irresponsible. They drink water from the nullahs and rivers and do not use tubewell water,'' said B Nayak, ADMO, Kashipur.
But in Taljhiri, a village that the chief minister visited on Monday, NDTV found out that it was compulsion and not a poor sense of hygiene that made people drink unsafe water.
There are altogether five tube wells in the village and of these four have been lying defunct for the past several months.
''The tube well is defunct and we have no other option than to drink river water,'' said a resident.
The only tube well, which is working cannot cater to a population of nearly 700.
Grappling with staff crunch
The medical administration is grappling with staff crunch.
''In the CHC four doctors are required but we have two and for six PHCs we have just one doctor. Inaccessibility and lack of communication has made things difficult for us,'' said P Sitaram, Chief District Medical Officer, Raygada.
