Mob violence paralyses Agra
Agra was paralysed on Wednesday as angry mobs burnt properties worth crores of rupees after four people were killed in an accident
 INDIA , 29-August-2007  10:12:21 AM
Agra was paralysed on Wednesday as angry mobs burnt properties worth crores of rupees after four people were killed in an accident.

Four boys who were part of a religious procession died after being crushed under the wheels of a truck.

The crowds accompanying them went berserk attacking everything that came in their way. At the end of the day property worth Rs 3-4 crore was destroyed.

One person died in the violence and the area around the Taj Mahal was sealed off for a while.

By mid afternoon, over 20 trucks, few police vehicles and two leather factories were burnt to the ground.

In the violence and the anger that engulfed whatever came in its path, many innocents lost everything they had.

Kalimuddin had big dreams to expand his leather business. Today his future seems to be buried in the charred building.

''I am reduced to begging, there is nothing left. Why was I targetted? I had nothing to do with this,'' said Kalimuddin, Businessman.

Anwar lost his 20-year-old son. He was killed in the cross firing between the police and the mob.

The young man, his family says, had simply stepped out to see what was happening.

''What can I say, maybe it was the administration, but what can I say?'' said Anwar, victim's father.

''Whoever is responsible for this from the administration will be brought to book,'' said Vikram Singh, DIG, UP Police.

Curfew has been imposed practically over all the city and advisory was put out to tourists to stay away from the Taj Town.
