Fight for supremacy continues
On one hand AIIMS officials and the resident doctors have ganged up against the Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss who's the institute's president.
 INDIA , 6-September-2007  2:27:51 AM
The battle to get their degrees signed has been won by the AIIMS resident doctors, but the war at one of India's premier hospitals continues.

On one hand AIIMS officials and the resident doctors have ganged up against the Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss who's the institute's president.

On the other Ramadoss has ganged up with the governing body - a group dominated by UPA leaders and the minister's friends.

The governing body met and came down hard on the institute's director, Dr P Venugopal for not following it's decision to reinstate former registrar VP Gupta which they say led to the whole crisis over signing degree.

''VP Gupta will be reinstated as the registrar,'' said R K Dhawan, Member of Governing body.

That was a moral victory for Ramadoss hours after the Delhi High Court issued a contempt notice to him for not having resolved the registrar issue much earlier as ordered.

But the fight at AIIMS is far from over. Specially as the AIIMS director turned away from the meeting on the registrar as his aides weren't allowed.

''It is an insult and the whole medical community will retaliate this insult not only from AIIMS but from the whole country and we will show him how things are done. He has started the war and we will see it through the end and the war will end with victory of only one side,'' said Dr Harsh, President, Resident Doctors Association.

The AIIMS officials may not allow VP Gupta to be reinstated as the registrar and he will simply be a flashpoint in the ongoing battle between Venugopal and Ramadoss.

Both factions say the functioning of the hospital is unlikely to be affected. But its prestige is certainly taking a beating.
