Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has arrived in Saudi Arabia after he was deported from Islamabad earlier on Monday.
It is being speculated that he might return to London. For now, he has been taken from Jeddah airport to an undisclosed location under heavy security.
Meanwhile, his brother Shahbaz Sharif, who stayed back in London, has just said that those who have kidnapped and thrown his brother out of the country should not think they have won because they will fight back and Nawaz will return to his people.
On Sharif's deportation to Saudia Arabia, the Pakistan government said the step was taken in the supreme interest of the country.
It said the action was in conformity with the law and the government was ready to defend the issue before the Supreme Court.
Attorney General Qayyum also rejected speculations that he has resigned in protest over
Sharif's deportation.
Ending his seven years in exile, Sharif returned home only to be arrested and handed over to the Punjab Police. Later he was put on a Pakistan Airline flight to Jeddah.
Airport drama
There was high drama at the airport. Nawaz Sharif stayed in the plane for 90 minutes after landing in Islamabad, while outside the airport and elsewhere in Pakistan hundreds of his supporters were arrested.
When he left plane, three Saudi diplomats sat with him in the airport lounge and tried to persuade him to go back, but he refused.
Soon after he was arrested. He was first taken in a helicopter towards Mianwali - a small town in Punjab - but the helicopter soon turned back to Islamabad.
He was bundled into a Pakistan international airways plane and sent off to Jeddah. According to reports he was also roughed up before being put on the airbus.
After he was deported, his lawyer said they will now move the Supreme Court, which had allowed Nawaz to return to Pakistan.
