| Evictions on Marina nearing complet |

| An ongoing drive by the Chennai Corporation to remove encroachments on the Marina Beach as part of a beautification project is nearing completion.
On Monday, about 200 mobile shops were shifted from the beach and also the service lane behind the Labour statue by a team comprising Corporation officials and police personnel. The drive began near Light House a week ago.
Most of the establishments removed were children’s carousels and mobile shops selling snacks and toys. A Corporation official said that more than 80 per cent of the encroachments had been removed. The drive would end in a couple of days and the vendors would be shifted near Anna Memorial, where other shops were located. The Corporation would also take action against stalls found selling unhygienic food.
The Avadi Municipality also undertook an eviction drive on Monday. It cracked down on commercial establishments encroaching the Chennai-Tiruvallur High Road.
