Transport services to Karnataka
State Transport Corporation buses parked at the Hosur bus depot after services were suspended following the torching of a bus on Tuesday night.
 INDIA , 20-September-2007  1:21:12 AM
State-owned transport services, suspended on Tuesday night following the torching of a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus at Bommanahalli in Karnataka and a petrol bomb attack on the Bangalore residence of Selvi, daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, resumed late on Wednesday morning.

Miscreants had torched the TNSTC bus at Bommanahalli on Hosur Road protesting against Mr. Karunanidhi’s remark on the Ramar Sethu issue.

A little earlier, the house of Ms.Selvi was attacked. As a matter of precaution, the authorities suspended bus services to Karnataka.

“As a precautionary measure, and following instructions from our superiors, we stopped all vehicles at the check post,” a police official said at the Bannari Amman check post.

Nearly 150 vehicles were stopped since midnight, the majority of which were trucks. On Wednesday morning, only a few private buses were in operation between Chamarajanagar and Thalavady. Only later in the day did the Karnataka State Transport Corporation buses ply.

Shuttle services were operated only to the Karnataka border at Athipalli. With the situation having eased, the inter-State bus services resumed from 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Krishnagiri district police have stepped up security at Zuzuvadi, Bagalur, Berigai, Mathigiri, Denkanikottai and Hogenakkal.

The district administration is in touch with the authorities in Bangalore and the situation is being closely monitored.
