UPA regime creating row over Ramar
The former Chief Ministers, Madan Lal Khurana, Mulayam Singh and Om Prakash Chautala; Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal
 INDIA , 26-September-2007  1:32:56 AM
Several Opposition leaders, including former Chief Ministers, on Tuesday charged the United Progressive Alliance government with unnecessarily creating a controversy over Ramar Sethu. They were participating in a rally organised by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) at Ambala to celebrate the 94th birth anniversary of the former Deputy Prime Minister, Devi Lal.

The leaders, including the former Haryana Chief Minister and INLD supremo, Om Prakash Chautala, said the people would teach a “lesson to a government which was not ready to accept the existence of Lord Ram.”

Those who attended the meeting were the former Chief Ministers, Mulayam Singh, N. Chandrababu Naidu and Madan Lal Khurana. The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Farooq Abdullah, could not reach the venue due to a traffic jam. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Samajwadi Party MP Amar Singh, Asom Gana Parishad leader Brindaban Goswami, Telugu Desam Party leader Yerran Naidu, BKU leader Mahendra Singh Tikait and the former Tripura Governor, Sultan Singh, were present.

Mr. Chautala criticised the Congress for its special economic zone policy. The INLD would not allow the government to acquire even one inch of agricultural land for an SEZ. The Congress government was importing wheat at Rs. 1,600 a quintal, while it was not ready to give local farmers even Rs.1,500.
