Last act in the Karnataka political drama could be played out on Friday. It's October 5, the date set by the JD(S) to let its coalition partner, the BJP know, if and when it will hand over power.
Top leaders of the JD(S) are meeting in New Delhi today to take a final decision. But Chief Minister Kumaraswamy has already made it clear that he'd rather go to polls than hand over the Chief Ministership to the BJP.
According to reports, the JD(S) may set some tough conditions for it's saffron allies.
Several meetings are also taking place in Bangalore. Ahead of his departure for the JD(s) top leaders' meeting, Chief Minister Kumaraswamy has called a cabinet meeting on Friday morning.
Sources have told NDTV that Kumaraswamy and his ministers are likely to call an Assembly session on October 18 for a trust vote.
The BJP ministers who have resigned from the cabinet are also holding a separate meeting.
The Congress has decided to meet the governor to demand president's rule in the state. A section of the Congress party has ruled out giving outside support to the JD(S) if it decides to call off its alliance with the BJP.
Meanwhile, the BJP seems to have resigned itself to the very real possibility of elections in the state.
The party's Chief Minister in waiting, Yediyurappa has said that he was prepared for polls if the JD(S) refused to transfer power. Speaking to NDTV Yediyurappa said, he will meet Kumaraswamy in Delhi and clear up his misunderstandings about the BJP.
