| Single dad adopts baby in Mumbai |

| It took dancer Sandip Soparkkar more than nine months to father a child and he did it all by himself.
He may not have had the labour pains or even the morning sickness but he's laboured his way through a system of tough laws to make his dream come true.
He became perhaps the city's first single man to adopt a child, three-year-old Arjun.
''I waited four years for this, in fact it took a year just to get the paperwork done but I'm happy,'' said Sandip.
But getting this far was not that easy.
Sandip needed to work at preparing a strong case that would not be rejected by the courts, which meant loads of paperwork, recommendation letters, proof of financial stability.
There were frequent house visits by social workers to name a few, besides other conditions that far exceed those needed by single women who wish to adopt a child.
He also had to be at least 30 years old, a milestone he crossed last year.
''I didn't give up but there were times when I was just so fed up. And I would scream at the adoption agency. But there are just so many more things that a man has to do as compared to a woman,'' said Sandip.
He may be one of the best known salsa and ballroom dance instructors in the country but little Arjun is keeping daddy on his toes.
''Right now, I would say the toughest thing is to get him to eat. I spend two hours in the morning, one hour 30 min in the afternoon and one hour at night just feeding him,'' said Sandip.
Sure, fatherhood has come with its share of surprises but there are certainly no regrets.
''I had to go to this important meeting and he did not want to be home alone. So, with his Spiderman bag in tow, laptop on the other shoulder, I went to attend this high power meeting,'' said Sandip.
From games to cars to candies, Sandip believes his joyride has only begun but one he hopes will encourage others to adopt.
