Who wants polls: Pawar
The Congress also on Thursday dismissed suggestions of a threat to the Government.
 INDIA , 12-October-2007  1:22:48 AM
It's becoming clear that none of the Congress' allies in the UPA wants mid-term polls.

On Thursday NCP leader Sharad Pawar declared that the government would not fall because of the Indo-US nuclear deal.

''The government will not fall over this deal. We will work it out with the left,'' said Sharad Pawar.

The Congress also on Thursday dismissed suggestions of a threat to the Government.

But with the Left keeping up the pressure what are the government's options?

Early elections don't suit the Left either, the CPM has serious factional problems in Kerala.and new challenges in West Bengal.

And if the CPI slips below ten seats it would lose its stamp as a national party.

Officials involved in the nuclear deal negotiations said that talks can only be postponed for a few weeks at most.

Anything beyond this means the US congress goes into election mode and India then waits for the next American regime to clear the deal, something India knows it cant be sure of.
