| With the threat of terrorist attacks casting a shadow, garba organisers are worried about ensuring security for their shows.
The police force is already stretched to its limit by demands of the impending polls in Gujarat. And thus there is a sudden spurt in demand for security agencies.
''Organisers are preferring private security guards than local police as not only there is a manpower crunch in police force but also private security guards according to the requirements of the show organisers. We are providing more and more metal detectors, door frames and even sniffer dogs,'' said R P Chauhan, MD, Perfect Investigation Limited.
Over 5000 major garba shows will be held in Gujarat's five major cities.
Thursday's blast in Ajmer has led state police to issue an order asking garba organisers to step up security.
''While the private security guards will ensure security and safety inside the venue, where people will be dancing for nine nights, we will also use policemen to ensure no external interruption, like notorious elements or terrorist activities,'' said Jayesh Nayak, ras garba organizer.
The show is about to begin and the biggest concern for garba organisers is ensuring security and safety for the thousands of participants who will be tapping their feet for nine long nights.
The organisers thus are trying to strike out a synergy between private security guards and local police to ensure nothing untoward takes place during the festive season.
