| Kolkata Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee and four other police officers, whose names have figured in the mysterious death of Rizwanur Rehman have been transferred.
Two Deputy Commissioners Gyanwant Singh and Ajay Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Sukanti Chakraborty and a sub-inspector Krishnendu Das have also been shifted with immediate effect.
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has said the decision will be implemented as early as possible.
This comes a day after the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI probe into the case, calling the state police's CID investigation illegal.
Earlier, the Left Front government had decided to get more proactive on the Rizwanur Rehman case after the High Court transferred the case to the CBI.
The government had promised that action will be taken against all police officers who may have been involved in the mysterious death of the young graphic designer from Kolkata
