The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into Wednesday's Sensex crash.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javdekar said untimely remarks by SEBI and late clarification of Finance Minister P Chidambaram needs to be looked into.
The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark had dropped by 1,744 points in intra-day trade, leading to closure of markets for about an hour.
The 30-share Sensex settled at 18,715.82 points, down 1.76 per cent from the previous close.
It recovered over 1,400 points from the day's low, as reassuring comments from the government and the market regulator lifted investors' sentiments.
