AIADMK, PMK stage walkout in Pondi
AIADMK and PMK members coming out of the Puducherry Assembly on Wednesday.
 INDIA , 25-October-2007  3:20:44 AM
Members belonging to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Pattali Makkal Katchi on Wednesday staged a walkout from the Assembly, protesting against the “lack of opportunity” to raise certain issues.

The walkout came even as Chief Minister N. Rangasamy tabled the Puducherry Value Added Tax Ordinance, 2007 in the House.

As Minister for Social Welfare M. Kandasamy did not come forward to table the 18th and 19th Annual Reports of the Pondicherry Adidravidar Development Corporation for 2003-04 and 2004-05 despite the Chair asking him to do so, the Chief Minister tabled them.

Mr. Kandasamy left the House after remaining there for a brief while.

Minister for Industries and Power V. Vaithilingam tabled the 19th Annual Report of the Pondicherry Textiles Corporation for 2005-2006.

Shortly after the House condoled the death of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar and former Member M. Venugopal, the Speaker invited Mr. Rangasamy to table copies of the Ordinance and nine relevant Government Orders.

The AIADMK and Puducherry Munnetra Congress members were on their feet urging the Chair to give them adequate time for raising important issues. They also held up posters. Even as the Speaker asked them to resume their seats, the AIADMK MLAs, led by their leader A. Anbalagan, and the PMK Members, led by R.K.R. Anantharaman, rushed to the well of the House, raising slogans.

When permission was withheld, the AIADMK members staged a walkout. The PMK MLAs also walked out. Leader of the Opposition A.M.H. Nazeem asked the Government to explain why it had not issued an order granting reservation for the minorities in education and employment.
