| Lighting strikes in various parts of Maharashtra have killed at least 17 people and injured 14 others.
Rains, unusual for this time of the year, lashed many parts of the state on Thursday and continued on Friday.
Nashik and Vidarbha areas bore the brunt of the heavy rains that have damaged standing crops in several districts in the eastern and western parts of the state.
Special Inspector-General of Police, Nashik Range, PK Jain said eight people, mostly farmers or farm workers, were killed by lightning strikes in Jalgaon district and one died in Dhule district late Thursday.
Besides, Wardha and Buldhana districts reported three casualties each, while Yavatmal district had two deaths.
Details of the damage to crops and other losses to cattle have been sought from local officials.
