| Villagers in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh beat up a groom and his family after they demanded dowry.
After punishing them by painting their faces black, the angry villagers later exchanged fire with the police when it tried to intervene.
The incident took an ugly turn later when the villagers opened fire on cops when they reached there to free the groom and his family.
The villagers also allegedly snatched six weapons from the policemen. Several villagers and policemen got injured during the exchange of fire and one policeman died in the incident
