The wharf that collapsed at Kasimedu Fishing Harbour.

A 24-year-old man died and two others sustained injuries when a wharf at the Kasimedu fishing harbour, Royapuram, collapsed early on Wednesday.
The police identified the deceased as D. Mathivanan and the injured as P.Anandan (37) and Kumar (56). All of them were Kasimedu residents.
According to the police when the three men went to the fishing harbour to take out a catamaran tied to a concrete pillar around 3 a.m., the wharf suddenly collapsed. Mathivanan who got caught under the debris died on the spot.
The injured were taken to the Stanley Medical College , police said.
The Chennai Port Trust announced a solatium of Rs 50,000 to Mathivanan’s family. Fisheries Minister K.P.P. Samy announced an assistance of Rs. 1 lakh.
It was decided to float a tender before the end of this month for the reconstruction of the wharf, police authorities said, quoting fishing harbour management officials.
