In a big relief for doctors and her parents, two-year-old Lakshmi, who underwent a complicated surgery to part with her extra limbs, has regained her consciousness.
''She is awake and moving her arms and legs. She also smiled on seeing her mother,'' said Dr Y John, director of medical services at the Sparsh Hospital.
Lakshmi's parents were allowed to meet her late Thursday.
''She is doing well and all her essential parameters are okay,'' John said.
Hospital authorities plan to slowly take her off from the ventilator, he said.
Lakshmi, who was born with four arms and four legs and had a parasitic headless twin fused together at the pelvis, was considered a ''reincarnation'' of a Goddess back home in Bihar.
She was brought to the Sparsh Hospital, a part of the Narayana Health City, from a village in Araria district by her parents Shambu and Poonam on October three.
A 36-member team carried out the complicated surgical procedure, which ended Wednesday morning, and since then she had been making steady progress.
Lakshmi had earlier Thursday moved her hands and toes and opened her eyes.
