Undergraduates in Delhi University may just be able to earn some pocket money.
The university is considering a proposal to allow them to work part-time, a concession allowed to only Post Graduate students earlier.
Students may now work between 25 and 30 hours a month on part-time jobs for not more than four months.
But they should note that the university would not allow them to work at the cost of their studies.
''Parent of the students who work will not feel the pressure when their children earn, students will not resort to anti-social activities when they have free time and it also helps them psychologically. It will help boost their self-esteem,'' said N K Chauhan, Director, Delhi University Adult Education.
But there is a rider: Only students not weak in academics and who genuinely need the money will be allowed to work.
The jobs they can take up are in the areas of research, lab assistants, IT, physical education to help students sharpen their managerial skills.
The students are naturally excited.
''It is really exciting. It will help students earn some extra money that can be used for other expenses,'' said a student.
'Earn while you learn' is only a suggestion for now. Hopefully, it would be implemented by next semester.
