Chennai gets cyclonic lashes |

Coastal Chennai faced the fury of the Bay of Bengal today even as the cyclone is moving towards the region between West Bengal and Bangladesh.
Ten houses collapsed on the shores near Thiruvottiyur triggering panic among over ten thousand people. The houses were hit hard by tides as high as three metres.
Water entered many homes and forced local people to move to safe locations. This family is salvaging the remnants of what was once their home as the sea erosion was inching closer.
Local minister had to face the wrath of the people as many accused the government of not doing enough to check erosion in the area.
K P P Sami Fisheries minister, Tamil Nadu said, ''By this evening we'll dump stones in all these areas to check erosion. They can stay in schools alloted for them. In the next six to eight months we will allot them new houses so that they will not have to live closer to the sea.
The Meteorological department said that the feisty winds were because of a depression in the Bay of Bengal and has issued an alert to coastal Tamil Nadu of a sea swell.
