| A District Secretary of the ruling DMK, Poondi Kalaiselvan, was killed in a bomb blast at his residence in Tiruvarur, police said today.
The blast took place when Kalaiselvan was meeting some visitors, they said adding he was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
Tension prevailed in the district after the incident.
Shops and business establishments in the town were closed in the wake of the murder.
