| March deadline set for IT corridor |

| The six-lane road works on the 20.1-km Information Technology (IT) Corridor from Madhya Kailash Temple to Siruseri will be completed by March-end, State Highways Minister Vellakoil M.P. Saminathan said here on Tuesday.
Briefing reporters after inspecting the progress of the IT corridor, Mr. Saminathan said the Government would simultaneously put into operation the 2.1-km four-lane road linking Old Mamallapuram Road (OMR) and East Coast Road (ECR) from Sholinganallur to the Akkarai beach road junction.
“By March next year, the Government is keen to fully operationalise the main IT corridor six-lane carriageway for vehicular traffic movement,” the Minister said.
The Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC), which was implementing the IT corridor road project, had to work out a revised cost estimate from Rs.215 crore to Rs.290 crore to meet the increase in cost of raw materials, factoring in the delay faced due to contractual problems.
A toll plaza on Rajiv Gandhi Salai would come up at Perungudi and the Government would make arrangements to provide Local Residents Pass for those living on the road. A helpline mobile number (98407 88804) had been made available for the residents to lodge complaints with regard to blocks in drainage and other issues concerning public utility services.
The Minister said he had issued strict instructions to ensure adherence to the March deadline. The Chief Minister was closely monitoring the progress of the IT corridor road project.
Admitting that the project had encountered several delays since April 2005, he said the Government was constantly reviewing the progress on a weekly basis and efforts were now on to complete all works on the right hand side of the IT corridor up to the Karapakkam bridge by December-end. Work on the left hand side would be taken up later.
