Bhartiya Janshakti (BJS) chief Uma Bharti decided not to withdraw her party's candidates for the next month's Assembly polls in Gujarat.
This follows strong protest from the candidates who have filed their nomination papers on behalf of the party floated by the former BJP leader a couple of years ago.
They rejected Bharti's offer of supporting them as independent candidates. Assembly polls are scheduled on December 11 and 16.
These candidates, led by Sunil Oza and Ramesh Mistry, requested her not to ''fall prey to the techniques of Narendra Modi'' and compelled her to support their candidature.
The candidates, present at the press conference addressed by Bharti here, shouted and gheraoed here when she announced they would contest as independents with her party's support.
Seeing the mood of the party candidates and workers, Bharti changed her decision and announced that all of them would contest on her party symbol.
The party will field candidates in 60 seats, said Swami Chaitnya Sambhu Maharaj, President of the state unit of BJS.
Bharti said survey predicting that Chief Minister Narendra Modi will retain power was wrong and at present it seems Congress is moving in direction of forming the next government.
The fiery sanyasin said she would make efforts to prevent Congress from wresting power in the state.
