Chasing 203, India beat Pakistan by six wickets on the final day of the first Test at Ferozeshah Kotla on Monday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series.
Needing just 32 runs to wrap up the Test, India lost Sourav Ganguly to Shoaib Akhtar but Sachin Tendulkar, 56 not out and VVS Laxman, who remained unbeaten on 6, sealed the win for the hosts.
It was brilliant all-round performance by the Indian team that saw them through. Both the batting and bowling clicked at the right time.
There were a number of brilliant individual performances. Anil Kumble picked up seven wickets, Sourav Ganguly took three wickets and scored 48 in the 2nd innings.
VVS Laxman and Wasim Jaffer both looked in good touch, overall a great team effort to put India 1-0 up in the series.
Earlier, India ended Day 4 at 171 for three.
Ganguly, batting on 48 and Tendulkar not out on 32 were at the crease when bad light stopped play.
A 88-run partnership between Tendulkar and Ganguly put India on course for a certain victory.
