Revolutionary and first Indian woman to join the Indian Police Service, Kiran Bedi has sought voluntary retirement.
She has written to the Home Ministry asking to be released from her services. But the government hasn't replied to her request as yet.
Bedi has cited personal reasons but it is hard to ignore that just a few months ago she was passed over for the post of Delhi Police Commissioner.
At that time Bedi was vocal about her disappointment.
She is one of the most popular officer of the IPS who has also been recognised by UN for her outstanding service.
She is famous for her prison reforms and humanitarian approach to fellow colleagues.
Key decisions regarding narcotics, traffic management and VIP security have been passed under her influence.
