Delhi airports to battle fog woes

 INDIA , 29-November-2007  2:37:43 AM
The new management for Delhi's national and international airports says it will deal with fog like a public enemy.

It's winter and we have already had the occasional fog in Delhi - a time, which is particularly a nightmare for flight passengers. Last season 15 days were disrupted by fog. This year Delhi airport a transit point for countless passengers every day is ready with a battle plan. Here's how:

A new call centre will open in a week to provide the latest flight information.

60 representatives will help passengers looking for information at the airport.

At crunch time, priority will be given to planes which have the most advanced Cat 3 landing systems.

''We believe that the most important thing for the passengers is dissemination of information. So we are trying to get that right this time. We are hopeful the measures we have introduced will work,'' said Andrew Harrision, COO, Delhi International Airport Limited.

But the most welcome relief may come from the order to low cost airlines to provide refreshments to all passengers whose flights are delayed because of the fog.

The company running the airport has assured that things will be better this year for passengers trying to travel through the airport during Delhi's fogged out winter.

But perhaps the real test will come in implementing whatever is on paper, when the fog actually hits the capital in the coming weeks.
