CPI(M)'s highest decision-making body, the Politburo, has begun its two-day meet today in New Delhi.
The main agenda is to prepare a draft political resolution to be adopted in the next party Congress, scheduled for March next year.
But other issues that are likely to dominate the meeting would include the controversy over Taslima Nasreen writings and whether or not the Left Front government in West Bengal is ready to allow her return to Kolkata.
The party's go-ahead to the UPA government to start negotiating an India-specific safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energry Agency (IAEA) and the nuclear debate in Parliament.
The situation in Nandigram, after the deployment of the central paramilitary forces.
But the main agenda, sources say, is to finalise plans about the next party congress scheduled for March next year in Coimbatore.
The party congress that takes place every 3 years, elects new members to executive bodies like the Politburo and the Central Committee. The party also decides on its stand on major policies.
But more importantly, the meet also decides the party's approach to economics and politics. In other words, what should be the party's stand towards economic policies, globalization, liberalization, international affairs and coalition politics.
