| An airhostess of a leading airline has been arrested in an immigration racket in Mumbai.
Aliya Rizvi used her easy access to visas and fake documents to help illegal immigrants to the United States but her arrest could just be the tip of the iceberg. Many more airhostesses are suspected to be involved in the racket.
Rizvi use to pose as the wife of men desperate to migrate and in return she was paid a hefty sum for it.
In this case, an Ahmedabad resident paid a sum of Rs 20 lakh to Aliya's agent. But the police has said that she was to receive Rs 1.8 lakh.
''Our investigations reveal that the gang specialised in this racket involves airhostesses,'' said Rakesh Marya, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).
Police suspect that Aliya was part of a ring of operatives, men soliciting clients who paid lakhs of rupees.
They also suspect that Aliya was only one of many airhostesses moonlighting for them, women whose easy access to visas made them useful accomplices.
